Case Studies

Bianca Tenga, Riverside College, 2006 Bursary for World Challenge Expedition to Peru.

We all agreed that the past four weeks had been great. I learnt that it is important to listen to the other team members and to not only think about what you want, but what is good for the team. All of the team members had a lot of responsibility; we had to arrange accommodation, transport, food, equipment and money. By doing all of these roles throughout the month had a strong impact on my own development. Now I know that planning ahead is probably the most important thing in order to get everything to work. I also got used to relying on my own initiative to get things done. This trip has made me push myself both physically and mentally. When we were trekking in the mountains from sunrise until sunset and it was really warm, everyone was hungry, thirsty, exhausted and sometimes you felt like you couldn’t go on any further. It was then I learnt that I have to push myself and really give my best but also help to cheer up those who felt the same.
